3-D Printers in the Classroom

Our district recently purchased 3-D printers for every elementary and middle school campus, which is absolutely amazing!  Yes, we are very excited, but there have been some questions.

WHAT do I use the 3-D printer for in my classroom?

3-D printers can be used to create just about ANYTHING in your classroom.  From computer cord organizers to phone charger stands, you can find what you are looking for on the net, download and print it.

HOW does it work?

3-D printing is not rocket science, but it does involve some time and patience.  Yes, you can go online and download some great files that others have created, but the whole point of having the printer is to have your students have the opportunity to create.  How do you do that?  A simple online application, called Tinkercad (tinkercad.com) can help even small Kindergarteners be able to create awesome 3-D objects in matter of minutes, with drag and drop capabilities.

Once a project is complete, it is a simple download process, and then over to the printer.  Imagine having students create a new game with original game pieces!  Yes, the possibilities are endless!  To get you started, here is list of some ways to use the incredible 3-D printer in your classroom.
